Oliver Griffiths - Alliss Young Masters Win

Well done to Talent Academy student, Oliver Griffiths, for his fantastic performance in the third round of this year's Alliss Masters and the race to Ferndown. Oliver took the spoils at Canford from Parkstone's Jenson Bull on countback with both players coming home with 37 points. Congratulations Oliver. Keep up the Golf and keep us posted on the next round.

Our year 8 rugby team have made an excellent start to the season winning their second game 25-20 vs Ansford Academy and then a hard fought 30-30 draw against Huish. The team go on to play four more fixtures before the Christmas break with excellent performances so far from James Bamford, Sam Robinson and Reece Hyde which has helped the team succeed.

As a brand new team there is a lot to learn, and the girls have been working really hard. They played 2 tournaments towards the start of the  term, losing 10—0 to The Gryphon School in their first ever game. The following 5 games also resulted in losses  however the team are  improving with every match they play and now have a firm grasp of the rules and skills they need to work on to get them winning in the future. Keep going team!

Westfield's very own Lily Clarke; Double County Champion and County Netball Star!

Lily competed at the County Junior Athletics Championships on Wednesday 29th June and came away with some fantastic results. Not only did she win her 100m and 200m Heats, but she also won the Finals for both as well! Lily was Westfield Academy's only competitor in the event and is now a Double County Champion...fabulous!

And if that wasn't reason enough to congratulate Lily, she has also been selected for the County Netball Team! Definitely a future sports star in the making. Well done.

Maddie Edmondson makes the U21's Short Mat Bowls England Team

Congratulations to Maddie Edmondon, Y8 pupil here at Westfield, who was selected for the U21's England Short Mat Bowls Team and, amazingly, for the women's team as wel! In a recent England U21's vs Wales game, the team lost the A competition but won the B competition. Well done Maddie. Keep it up!

Swimming Success for Jacob Bailey

In a recent county competition, Y10 student Jacob Bailey came 2nd in his age group (16 as at 31 Dec 16) in 400 Individual  Medley and achieved bronze in this event as the junior county standings. He also swam in two other events making the finals, with a bronze in the 200m fly. A really great achievement. Well done Jacob!

Netball Update

Congratulations to the Y8 and Y9 netball teams who won against Stanchester. It was a brilliant display by both teams with Y8 winning 18 - 3 and Y9 winning 23 - 0. Well done girls!

Well done to the Y7, Y9 and Y10 netball teams for their performances against Holyrood. The Y7 team won their first match 2-1 and also played an additional friendly fixture as both schools had so many players we could both field two teams! Fantastic participation! We also saw another win from the Y9 team, this time in no small part to the Y8 super subs who played! The Y10's narrowly lost a hard fought game 11-14. Some great individual performances were seen though and we're sure they will go from strength to strength. A massive well done to all who played.

Somerset Schools Cross Country Championships

23rd January 2016

Westfield were very proud to have five runners representing the Yeovil area at the Somerset Schools Cross Country Championship on Saturday 23rd Jan, held at Aldon Hill, Yeovil. The competition was fierce and the course particularly testing but all of our students ran extremely well. Unfortunately, none of them made it through to the County team but they should still be very proud of their achievements. We certainly are!

A massive well done!

3rd in Boccia Competition!

Well done to our brand new Boccia teams who took part in a competition at Westfield against students from Holyrood and Lufton College. Westfield had four teams in the competition made up of 2-3 players. Boccia is an attack and defence game, with two sides competing over a set number of ends. The aim is to score as many points as possible by placing their set of coloured balls closest to the white jack ball. It is designed to be an accessible game, played by people of all abilities, including those with physical disabilities. Particular congratulations go to Danny Gibbs and Tyler Hurlow who finished 3rd overall. Well done boys! Also, many thanks to our wonderful Year 9 Sports Leaders who helped to officiate and run the event. These students also gave up their own time in order to receive training before the event. This will count towards their volunteering record for the Leadership Award they are working to achieve.
