Alumni Starts a Career in the Navy

We had some amazing news at the beginning of the week, informing us that Class of 2019 student Will McCutcheon has passed out from HMS Raleigh in Torpoint following his completion of 10 weeks Initial Naval Training.

This training encompassed basic skills such as self discipline, teamwork & overcoming problems.  Part of the teamwork element was spent learning how to operate as a team tackling floods and fires at sea, as well as passing a first aid course.

A progressive fitness regime tested his abilities to climb High Ropes and complete the assault and obstacle courses whilst practicalities and individual development i.e. washing, ironing and maintaining kit were also taught.  Many hours were also spent on the parade square instilling a strong sense of military discipline, integrity, and personal pride.

Will now moves on to HMS Sultan in Gosport, Hampshire for his professional training as an Accelerated Apprentice (Marine Engineering), which will last for 97 weeks and will include academic studies and workshop practical exercises as well as 21 weeks on the job training onboard a warship.

We are all very proud of Will in his achievements since leaving Westfield Academy.  Congratulations on your passing out - we look forward to hearing of your future endeavours within the Navy.
